How to Create Subreport using iReport Posted on by admin One comment Subreport: Subreports represent one of the most advanced functionalities of Jasper Reports and they make possible the realization of very complex prints. Subreports enable us to create more complex reports and simplify the design work.

They are very useful when creating master-detail reports or when the structure of a single report is not sufficient to describe the complexity of the desired output document. A subreport is in fact a normal report that is been incorporated as part of another report. Here I have provided a real life example of how to create a sub-report to display detail of a sales invoice with iReport. Say you have the following table structure: And you need to produce the following sales invoice from the above structure.

First create the subreport as an individual report with the following query. Now run this report and you can see something like following if you have data in the table. Now its time to create the master report with the following query. Your master report should look like the following. Integer in you master report too. Now change the subrport properties with the following. Now change the subreport parameter with this. Now run the master report. If everything you done properly you should be able to display the master report with detailed subreport.

How to add subReports in iReport

Conceptually, a subreport in a report is similar to a frame in a Web page. It is used to embed a report within a report. Any report can be used as a subreport. The report that is displayed as the subreport is stored on a report server, usually in the same folder as the parent report. You can design the parent report to pass parameters to the subreport. A subreport can be repeated within data regions, using a parameter to filter data in each instance of the subreport. Note If you use a subreport in a tablix data region, the subreport and its parameters will be processed for every row.

Next Page Subreports are one of the nice features of the JasperReports. This feature allows incorporating a report within another report, that is, one report can be a subreport of another. Subreports help us keep report designs simple, as we can create many simple reports and encapsulate them into a master report. Subreports are compiled and filled just like normal reports. Any report template can be used as a subreport when incorporated into another report template, without anything changed inside of the report template. Subreports are like normal report templates.
